The triathlon will be centred around the historic town of Horwich, a few miles from the town centre of Bolton. Horwich is a former railway and mill town that’s only around five square miles in size but can boast the home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, a 2002 Commonwealth Games venue, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The swim will take place in the towns’ refurbished leisure centre. There’s also easy access to the West Pennine Moors, including Rivington and its landmark Pike and the enchanting Gardens created by Lord Leverhulme, the founder of global business Unilever, which are very popular with walkers and cyclists.

Horwich is just minutes from the M61 motorway, with a direct rail service to Manchester International Airport and links to the national rail network. It is right on the doorstep of the beautiful West Pennine Moors where much of the cycling will take place.
