This year we are delighted to include a children’s fun swim~run as part of the Festival.
The emphasis for the event is fun and inclusiveness. On this occasion the competitive element is secondary as our primary focus is ensuring that all the participants enjoy the race and complete the distances safely. Whilst some of the children will have competed in races before, for the majority this will be their first competitive experience . We politely request that all parents enter into the spirit of the event to ensure that eveyone has a great time.
Registration and race briefing
Registration for all ages will be 11-11.30am at Horwich Leisure Centre. Once registered children should make their way to the changing rooms and get into their swim wear. There will be race briefing at 11.45am in the downstairs viewing area overlooking the shallow end of the pool for parents and children
The races will start at noon. Children will swim the following distances:
Tri Start: Distances 50m swim
Tri Start 1: Distances 150m swim
Tri Start 2: Distances 200m swim
Tri Start 3: Distances 300m swim
We will have lane counters who will help the children if needed out of the pool. Parents are not permitted pool side, but are able to help their child in the changing room.
Once a child has completed their swim they will be given time to change into their running clothes and make their way to the run start which will be at the finishing banner on Old Station Park. (about a 5 minute walk)
The first wave of runners will start at approximately 12.30pm The run consists of laps of 600m so depending on age will determine amount of laps as follows
Tri Start: 600m run – 1 lap
Tri Start 1: 1.2k run – 2 laps
Tri Start 2: 1.8k run – 3 laps
Tri Start 3: 2.4k run – 4 laps
The route will be marshalled and signposted. The children will finish under the finishing banner where they will receive a medal.
We will endeavour to have a prize giving as soon as possible, but we do ask parents to be patient as the results will be compiled by hand! There is a good play ground adjacent to the finish area so this should keep the children happy while we sort the results.
We will be awarding trophies to the first three finishers in each category
